Flight of the Falcon

The Star Wars saga has unfolded over many different eras, and a new book series will attempt to connect those sprawling eras in one easy-to-read package. The series is Flight of the Falcon, and here’s how it’s being described:

Landing at a docking bay or bookseller near you in time for Star Wars Reads in October, the series of books and comics about the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy will help connect different eras of Star Wars storytelling through the adventures aboard the beloved ship. Each fiction title will include a map to trace the literal flight path and help readers understand the time and place where each story is set.

The main story will feature Bazine Netal, the spy seen on Takodana in The Force Awakens, who “is on the hunt for the Falcon, and her intel leads her across the galaxy to Batuu, a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge. In order to find the Falcon, Bazine must learn all she can about the infamous YT-1300 freighter — the ship that countless bounty hunters and Imperials have almost caught over the years.”

The series will launch with Star Wars: Lando’s Luck, a book by Justina Ireland, with illustrations by Annie Wu. It’s a middle grade novel set on Lando’s pristine version of the ship. Here’s a pretty charming illustration from the book:

StarWars.com says “the books are aimed at middle grade readers, ages 8-12, but perfect for anyone who loves a good Star Wars story.” So there you have it: go nuts and buy all the books, folks.

Solo TV Spot

Don’t go anywhere. We’re not done yet. There’s a new Solo TV spot, and it offers us some new footage of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Most of the previous trailers and clips for Solo have focused on the fun and adventure of the film. This TV spot is a bit more serious, with booming music and lots of shots of people looking very stern and serious. That’s fine, I guess, but I hope the film ends up being as fun as previous footage indicated.

Solo will be premiering at the Cannes Film Festival very soon (May 15), and as a result, the social media and review embargo for the film will be lifting in the next few days. Keep your eyes peeled for the first early reactions to the film. I have a good feeling about this.

Solo: A Star Wars Story opens on May 25, 2018.
