Guardians of the Galaxy Song in Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War may have been just dethroned from the top of the box office by Deadpool 2, but fans are still talking about the Marvel Studios sequel. That includes sending questions to director James Gunn, since he was consulted about how the Guardians of the Galaxy were utilized throughout the movie. One question has been thrown his way a number of times, and he wanted to make sure everyone got the answer.

When the Guardians of the Galaxy are introduced in Avengers: Infinity War, they’re flying across space to answer a distress call. While the rest of the movie only uses Alan Silvestri’s score, this particular sequence starts off with the crew listening to “Rubberband Man” by The Spinners from the Zune that Star-Lord was given at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. But there were a few other options that could have been used for this sequence.  Read More »

deadpool 2 spoiler review

(In our Spoiler Reviews, we take a deep dive into a new release and get to the heart of what makes it tick…and every story point is up for discussion. In this entry: David Leitch’s surprisingly funny Deadpool 2.)

“This is a family film,” Deadpool tells us early on in Deadpool 2. It is, of course, a joke – a movie loaded with vulgar jokes and ultra-violence can’t really be a “family film.” And yet, there’s an air of truth to this. Because a family indicates growth, and growth is exactly what Deadpool 2 showcases. For all its flaws – like the first film, it’s never quite as funny or subversive as it thinks it is – Deadpool 2 takes the meta world created by the original Deadpool, and builds upon it. It finds new ways to tell an old joke, and for that, it’s (mostly) a success.

Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio

UPDATE: We’ve got word that Spider-Man: Homecoming villain Michael Keaton will be returning as Vulture. We talk about what that could mean in our story below.

Jake Gyllenhaal has come close to entering the superhero genre a couple times in his career. When Tobey Maguire tried to play hardball to negotiate a new contract for Spider-Man 2 and any sequels that might follow, Jake Gyllenhaal was waiting in the wings to take the job. Then the Donnie Darko and Nightcrawler star almost suited up for DC Comics as one of the top choices to play The Dark Knight in Batman Begins. But now it will be a Marvel villain role that brings the actor into the fray.

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are working on their sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming starring Tom Holland. While it would seem that Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 leaves the wallcrawler’s future uncertain, the studios are moving forward with casting for the sequel, and they’re currently in talks with Jake Gyllenhaal to play the Spider-Man villain Mysterio. Captain Marvel origin story

Origin movies are the bread and butter of the superhero movie genre. But while every superhero needs one, not all audiences want one. It may be because we’ve seen Peter Parker get bitten by a spider twice in the past two decades. Or because we’ve seen Bruce Wayne’s parents shot in an alley about 80 million times — even in movies that aren’t even about his origin. It’s no surprise that a few superhero franchises are foregoing the origin story altogether — Spider-Man: Homecoming leapt right past it, Guardians of the Galaxy throws you right into the fray.

But there’s no avoiding an origin story for Captain Marvel. Marvel’s first solo female superhero is relatively unknown to mass audiences, and thus needs a proper introduction, including a classic origin movie. But the Captain Marvel origin story may be a little different than what you would expect.
